Skin Progress

By Stam, 2009-10-07 21:59 in News

Since the initial set up of this demo installation of Cotonti (October 5th 2009), I have been working to improve this "soon to be released" skin, as it was not 100% complete before the deadline of the skin contest. Let's take a look at a day by day progress.

Day 3
  • Integrated smooth scroll to anchor links
  • Completed users.profile.tpl, users.tpl and pfs.tpl
  • Improved various logical blocks
  • Fixed positioning of anchors
  • Updated language file

Day 2
  • Major bug fixing and validation; everything validates as xhtml 1.0 strict so far
  • Added logical if/else statements for several content blocks and other occasions
  • Improved margins, links, in-page anchors and background colors
  • Finished forums, except creating new topic icons and still searching for an auto image resizing solution to wide images
  • New custom horizontal menu without images for administration panel
To Do Next: Vote Polls, Search, User Pages (details, profile, edit, pm)

Day 1
forums.posts.tpl
  • Table-less layout
  • Right Sidebar / Widget
  • Breadcrumbs (You are here)
  • Username color change by usergroup
  • Avatar with rounded border
  • Online status as a wrapped paper around avatar, offline status is just blank
  • Custom coded web 2.0 action buttons for quote, edit, delete
  • "Login to Quote" appears instead of "Quote" for guests
  • Post content is in a bordered box that changes colors for the posts of the logged-in member
header.tpl
  • Removed rounded box for site info text, a 468x60 ad can take this place now
  • Altered User Panel box background and text colors
  • Fixed a link color bug
index.tpl
  • Fixed a bug on Opera
  • Fixed some margins

I didn't have time to finish search plugin, and still it uses tables, while they are wiped out from the rest of the skin. It will be fixed of course, and a series of improvements will kick in as well.
Users area does validate, like every other area of the skin. The thing that doesn't validate is the MSN javascript used in the core for user details page.
